Minecraft Forge is a Minecraft application programming interface (API) which allows almost maximum compatibility between other Forge mods. It contains a clean room rewrite of RML (Risugami's Modloader) which allows compatibility with modloader mods. It contains hooks into the base Minecraft files that allows modders to make their mods more advanced without editing base classes.

- Adventure Backpack
Adventure Backpack adds 60-something new backpacks to the game, with the ability to store fluids in special tanks and to trigger special characteristics during gameplay. It keeps a minecraft style and everything can be crafted with vanilla items, it doesn't depend on any other mod. They will keep their inventory when you die, are impervious to lava and fire, and have some neat abilities

- Carpenter's Blocks
This mod adds slopes and a custom variety of vanilla-inspired blocks to Minecraft. The custom nature of these blocks allows players to cover them using most solid blocks in the game. Once covered, they look and act just like the block they're mimicking, but in entirely new shapes! For example, make some obsidian stairs that are resistant to explosions; or, make glowstone take the shape of a pyramid top. With Carpenter's Blocks, building takes on new possibilities!

- Code Chicken Core and NEI (Not Enough Items)
NEI is a successor to both Too Many Items and Recipe Book. It arose around the same time as Craft Guide when Alexandria and a few others on the IRC suggested that I merge both Too Many Items and Recipe Book to remove their greatest flaws, ironically too many items, or in the case of recipe book, too many recipies. Too Many Items was great, but the one thing it lacked was an easy way to search and sort your items. When you had a mod like Red Power coming along with 10000 items both TMI and Recipe Book were racking up the pages. Even if you don't want to use NEI for cheating in items, you will likely feel right at home with the Recipe component of the mod.

I have the pleasure to introduce to you Waila (What Am I Looking At). Waila is an extension for NEI. It will show in the tooltip what mod an item is from. Since the tooltip contains the mod name, you can also easly parse items per mods. But that's not all ! Leveraging an extended NEI HUD, it is also capable of showing the name of blocks and mods ingame, right on top of your screen.
