(To get grout you now need and invar shovel to "mix" the grout along with new ingredients: clay dust and limestone dust[new item]. This will yield 4x grout, the nether grout recipe has also been changed)
(To get a blank pattern you need to craft a "slimy glue stick" which is made by putting a slime in a bucket and sticking it on a shaft made of gems.)

(Full guards are still obtainable through a certain process involving the drying rack and a wide guard pattern, it's a mystery.)
