We have put this mod pack through extensive testing on our own dedicated server and client PC's to ensure it operates and is stable, but that doesn't mean it will work flawless for everyone. If you have issues please go though this page before contacting us. We've divided the help area into the following sections below;
- Minimum Requirements
- Bug Reporting (how to)
- Server Installation
- Server Updating
- Client Reinstalling (Clean)
- Known Issues
- Tips for New Players
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
CLIENT
- Java 1.8
- 8.0 GB of RAM (set in launcher)
SERVER
- Java 1.8
- 5.0 GB of RAM (increases with player count)
- 1GB of Hard Drive Space (increases with world size & backups)
BUG REPORTING
If your equipment meets the minimum requirements listed above, and you have found a bug with the client or server please report it to us in the "Discuss" area or seek out our forum at http://forum.viper01.com.
These pages are checked, roughly, once a week so be patient. Do not leave your contact information, as both the forum and "discuss" page is public and it could be snatched up by advertisers.
SERVER INSTALLATION
These instructions require you to know the basics of setting up a Minecraft Server, and assume your server meets the minimum requirements listed above.
Start by downloading the server ZIP file from this site, then extract it to a folder. This will be known as the \server\ folder. Now open notepad and type in the following lines;
Please note, you must increase "Xmx4G" up to "Xmx5G" or higher, based on how much memory you wish the server to use, but do not decrease the number below 5G as the server may not run properly. Save this file into your \server\ folder as "Startup.bat"
While you're in the \server\ folder open the file named "Eula" and where it says "false" change it to "true". If you don't do this the server will automatically stop before it finishes loading, so it's important.
Now you can run the "Startup.bat" file and your server should begin loading. Once it's done loading you should be able to connect to it with your VCG2 client. Enjoy!
Note, setting up the server through a professional server host (like Fragnet) may require different steps and this setup does not cover those customizations. For assistance with these issues contact your server host. It would be a good idea to give them a link to this page when you do.
SERVER UPDATING
These instructions require you to know the basics of your Minecraft server and how the folders are organized. This update process will take a current VCG2 server, with an existing world, and update them to the latest version of this mod pack. Note, this process is NOT guaranteed to work for every update!
Start by downloading the newest server ZIP file from this site, then extract it to a temporary folder. We will call this the \TempServer\ folder. Your server's already existing folder, weather or not it's on your local PC, will be called the \Server\ folder for this tutorial.
- Make sure your live server is not running.
- Go to your \Server\ folder and make a backup of your World folders.
- Delete the MODS, LIBRARIES, and SCRIPTS folders if they exist.
- Delete the "VCG2.jar" and "Minecraft_Server1.10.2" files.
- Go to the \TempServer\ folder
- Copy the MODS, LIBRARIES, and SCRIPTS folders, if available, to the \Server\ directory.
- Copy the "VCG2.jar" and "Minecraft_Server1.10.2" files to the \Server\ directory as well.
- Start the server.
- During startup you may be asked to type "/fml confirm". Do it.
CLEAN CLIENT REINSTALL
From time to time older versions of this pack may leave behind "garbage" files when an update is performed. Occasionally these files can cause problems with the client (not server) after an update. If you are experiencing problems after updating to a new version of VCG2 your first step, before notifying us of the issue, should be performing a Clean Reinstall of the mod pack to be sure a "garbage" file isn't the problem. Here are the steps to do a clean reinstall of the VCG2 client;
- Open your Tekkit launcher and select "Viper-Craft Galaxy 2".
- Beside the "Play" button click "Delete Pack".
WARNING: This will delete all VCG2 single-player worlds!
- When asked if you're sure, select "Yes".
- Use the search bar to find "Viper-Craft Galaxy 2".
- Select "Install".
This will download a clean copy of the latest VCG2 mod pack, just as if it was your first time installing it. Please note that any changes you made to the default settings, or key bindings, will have to be redone. If you backed up your single-player worlds they will also have to be copied back to the "saves" folder before you can play them.
KNOWN ISSUES
The following are all known issues occurring in the Viper-Craft Galaxy 2 mod pack, and the workarounds we have discovered for them. Whenever possible we will attempt to remedy these issues in the next patch.
Harvest Festival Crops Die in SMP - Workaround:
This is a known issue and has been reported to the mod author. Every morning at 06:00 soil dries out, which is required as the Harvest Festival crops need "watered" to grow. Normally a water source will supply water back to tilled soil however if no players are around (chunk remains unloaded) this doesn't happen. While this doesn't affect other crops, it does kill the Harvest Festival crops. The mod author assures me this will be corrected in the next large update, but until then we suggest that players only plant/grow Harvest Festival crops during the times they are actually online. Other things that kill Harvest Festival crops include;
- No access to sunlight
- No water
- Change in season (or wrong season for the crop)
- Damage
Dead Harvest Festival crops will appear a darker color. For example, being a dark green instead of light green.

Golden Lasso Recipe Doesn't Work - Workaround:
The recipe for the Golden Lasso, from Extra Utilities, shows as incorrect in the NEI interface. The proper recipe is;
- Gold Nugget + String + Gold Nugget
- String + Eye of Ender + String
- Gold Nugget + String + Gold Nugget
This recipe has been tested and works perfectly. Ignore the recipe that shows in the NEI interface.
TIPS FOR NEW PLAYERS
The most important tip I can give to new players is don't waste time on your first day;
- Collect some wood
- Build a crafting table
- Craft a wooden pickaxe (forget the other tools for now!)
- Find stone and collect cobble (17 minimum)
- Create 1 of each stone tool, sword included (skip the hoe)
- Create a stone furnace.
- Collect more wood.
- Collect coal if you see it, burn wood for charcoal if you don't.
- Make torches.
If you do this quickly enough you should be able to get everything done before night falls. You want to start with an underground base and no exit (cover the exit with cobble). Tornado's are frequent in the overworld and can destroy surface bases unless they're protected. This includes destroying doors and sucking things out of an underground base if you aren't careful.
You'll need to eventually build a "Weather Deflector", which will protect an area 150 blocks radius from storm activity, if you wish to have a base on the surface.
